England Student Rugby League Team entered the Final of the World cup against Australia as massive underdogs and almost produced the shock of the tournament. The team blew the favourites away in a breathtaking first half display of rugby league.
The very vocal home crowd were silenced by the tough tackling and exciting attack of the English players which saw them go into the half time break 10 – 0 in the lead.
England Head Coach Colin Baker must have wished there was no half time break in this game, as the Aussies came out of the changing rooms inspired by their coach, the Australian Rugby League legend Brett Kenny.
In a twenty minute period the aussies more or less ended English hopes of winning the World Cup by scoring five tries.
England, to their credit, didn’t give in and Chris Hodgson scored what was arguably the best try of the tournament to keep England in the running.
Despite pushing the home team hard all the way to the final whistle the Australians were crowned World Champions with a 26 – 16 victory.
